St Matthew's Church in Jersey or The Glass Church as it is generally known, is open again after being closed for some months for remedial work. St Matthew's is known as the Glass Church as it is decorated with a world renown collection of glass work by French artist René Lalique.
Regardless of whether you have any religious interest, this is breathtaking and well worth a visit - It is not far from the Harbourview, between us and town and adjacent to another lovely park (Millbrook Park).

Gorey Castle Jersey
This morning I decided to visit the east of the island so I had my injections, grabbed my passport (Jersey joke) and headed, with the dog, for Grouville bay, which is probably six, maybe seven miles from the Harbour View. And in Jersey, thats a long way, but a great excuse to take a picnic.
Grouville bay is a crescent shaped beach where the sea can reach the wall at high tide and disappear for half a mile at low tides. It is quite lovely and, like the east of the island itself, has very much its own unique character as it is in the lee of the prevailing south westerly winds.
Apart from being a peaceful beach to relax on Grouville bay is watched over by the spectacular and imposing Gorey Castle, (Mont Orgeuill). The castle is open to visitors and provides spectacular views of the French coast.
Talking of the tides, the tides here in Jersey are some of the largest in the world, sometimes rising over forty feet, and whilst high and low tides can be at any hour of the day or night, the biggest tides tend to be around 8 am or 8 pm making these the most breathtaking and spectacular to experience. if there's a high tide when you're here get up early and go and have coffee looking out over the harbour, with the boats bobbing just a few feet from the top of the wall.

Queen's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in Jersey
Possibly the most important part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations for Jersey will be hosting the most southerly jubilee beacon in the British Isles. The beacon will be lit at St. Clements Church on the 4th of June - but by whom has not yet been decided. Another proud moment for Jersey is the "Howard D", Jersey's first motorised lifeboat, active during the German occupation in the war, and named after the lost son of a Jersey businessman and philanthropist, will participate in the Thames Jubilee pageant as part of the flotilla of over one thousand vessels.

As a footnote - 10 minutes walk from the town bus station can be found the quite delightful Howard Davis Park - also donated to the island by the Davis family many years ago. A lovely park to relax in during the day and venue for occasional open air evening concerts during the summer.

Sea Jersey - Ecological walking and boat tours of jersey's coasts
If you are interested in nature and want to experience something quite uniqe during your visit then this may be for you.
A local environmentalist, Andrew Syvret, organises walks and boat trips to experience the best and most interesting aspects of marine life and habitats around our coastline, and especially the ecologically important Ramsar wetland area of 32SqKm on the south east coast.
Many locals go on his tours as they are such a unique experience, especially moon walks; night time walks when low tides coincide with full moons. Andrew explains it much better than I can though - so read all about it on his website SeaJersey.com
